In Ashes of Creation, Status Effects are considered as conditions that affect a Player and Monster. These effects can be improved or reduce the stats such as damage output, mobility, and many other stats. This has a major impact on the performance during combat. However, some skills are limited for each class thus the status effect. It means that you can only apply certain status effects depending on your archetype. But, keep in mind that you still can be affected by all status effect. Having a good understanding of the different status effects can help you win battles by applying countermeasures to them. So, Here is all the status effect that are currently in the game!

\n\n\n\n

We will now discuss each status effect and what are the impacts of each one whether it is a positive status effect, Called a Buff, or a Negative one, Called a Debuff. Listen Carefully!

\n\n\n\n

Bleeding

\n\n\n\n

Bleeding is continuous damage that is 15% percent over 6 seconds. Totaling 90% percent damage over the status effect duration. The damage can vary depending on the skill that applies the debuff. It can evolve into a higher-status effect called Hemoragging.

\n\n\n\n

Hemoragging

\n\n\n\n

It is a more severe type of bleeding that does 20% percent bleed damage every 0.5 secs over 5 secs duration. Totaling to a massive 200% damage.

\n\n\n\n

Burning

\n\n\n\n

It is also a type of DoT effect or Damage over time like bleeding and Hemoragging. It burns and deals fire damage to the target that lasts up to 8 seconds, It can be reapplied and increase the duration up to 24 seconds. There is an after-damage once the burn effect ends, It is called Conflagrating.

Conflagrating

\n\n\n\n

Conflagrating converts all the remaining burning damage on the target into an accelerated DoT, which lasts for 4 seconds. Also, the damage is boosted by 30%.

\n\n\n\n

Chilled

\n\n\n\n

It is a movement debuff affecting movement speed to be reduced by 50% which lasts 6 seconds. It can be also extended up to 15 secs by subsequent applications.

Frozen

\n\n\n\n

A higher type of chilled. The user cannot move or rotate for 4 seconds. They are immobilized. When combined with a lightning skill during frozen, The target will receive 300% ice damage as a Shatter Effect. It can only be triggered once every 4 seconds per caster on the same target. Thus, Freeze the enemy and then dealing lightning damage to them is the combo for this effect

Volatile

\n\n\n\n

Volatile deals -15% Magical Mitigation. it lasts 6 seconds and can be extended up to 15 seconds with subsequent application.

Target cannot move or act. The duration depends on the skill that applies stun.

The target cannot attack or use a weapon combo in 5 seconds. But they can move.

It is a type of debuff that is used commonly by Bard Archetype. It can decrease the damage multiplier by 10% for 8 seconds, It can also be extended up to 20 seconds during subsequent applications.

Humiliated

It is an improved demoralization and reduces the damage dealt by 30% which lasts 8 seconds. the debuff effect does not affect the applier so it is best used in a group.

Pep

For instance, Once you get stunned, Your resistance or your diminishing return will increase against stuns. Thus, Making it harder to stun you the next time around. It prevents players from abusing crowd control skills and permanently locking you into place. That is boring and not competitive.

Quick examples – tank provides Staggered debuff and fighters can use their Crippling Blow to trip their target, which will lead to 20% more damage from Maim. Mages can benefit from the stagger effect as well – Aftershock is an improvement of Chain Lighting, which once hit a staggered target, will cause the attack to trigger twice. They are great support for any type of encounter, be it PVP or PVE.

In this guide, we will touch on how you can build your Tank, provide some insight based on gaming experience.

Skill Selection and Core Abilities

\n\n\n\n

As the leveling process goes on, everyone will encounter different challenges. For the tanks are these:

\n\n\n\n

Low damage output
Running out of mana
Lack of sufficient self-healing
Holding aggro or getting enough aggro off a party member before they get killed.

\n\n\n\n

The answer to the first 3 is rather easy – teammates! Having a group of friends will make your gaming experience in Ashes of Creation immensely more fun.

\n\n\n\n

Tip: A good group structure would be: Tank, Cleric, Bard, Fighter/Mage/Ranger. A 4-5 man group is efficient when it comes down to farming experience.

\n\n\n\n

How to handle the 4th challenge?

\n\n\n\n

Selecting the right skills from the skill tree is the answer. Here you can find a suggestion of skills for the early levels. We will touch on basic rotation as well.

\n\n\n\n

Before we start, here is a quick example of what you can do as a tank. (no fancy weapons or armor; basic starting gear with common copper mace and shield)

\n\n\n\n

\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Core abilities and how the skills can change your gaming experience

\n\n\n\n

As you open your skill book for the first time, you will notice that there are icons with a huge white cross that indicate multiple options. Basically, the game asks you to choose between a single target ability or an AOE ability. The tanks have 3 of those choices to make, which can change the gaming experience greatly.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Pulverize or Desolate

\n\n\n\n

Pulverize is the hardest hitting ability of the tanks – it will attack 1 enemy within 4m range. Essentially, that is a short gap closer with high damage output and threat generation.

\n\n\n\n

Desolate will have the same attack animation. Instead of moving to a target within 4m range, it will do damage to everything within 4m range. Same threat generation.

\n\n\n\n

In my build, based on my gaming experience in Ashes of Creation, so far, Pulverize proved to be most useful to my party. Especially in the case of someone “ninja” pulling – 300% threat generation on top of the 225% physical damage is a huge helper.

\n\n\n\n

Tremoring Bellow or Tremoring Strike

\n\n\n\n

Tremoring Bellow is an AOE ability that will apply Snare to every enemy hit in front of the tank.

\n\n\n\n

Tremoring Strike is a single target ability, which will Trip your target – the enemy will fall on the ground. (Recommended for PVP)

\n\n\n\n

I have selected Tremoring Bellow to help with maintaining the AOE aggro and the movements of the targets in front of me. AOE snare is massive assistance to the party when you are doing mass pulls. Also, the Rangers benefit from already snared targets – Bear Trap, Air Strike. The damage difference is not as great as it was with Pulverize and Desolate.

\n\n\n\n

Tip: If you do not have a Fighter in your group (I have at least 1) and there is no one that can trip your enemy, you might consider swapping to Tremoring Strike for that and have Desolate instead of Pulverize to maintain AOE aggro.

\n\n\n\n

Tip: Tremoring Bellow and Desolate with Punish work well together.

\n\n\n\n

Shield Assault or Shield Slam

\n\n\n\n

Shield Assault is a 7m shield charge which will stagger enemies in front of the tank. The movement is based on where your character is facing.

\n\n\n\n

Shield Slam is a 10m shield charge towards your target.

\n\n\n\n

Shield Assault costs more mana, charge distance is 3m less and does 25% less damage. However, the skill helps with the AOE aggro, which applies Staggered to the enemies in front, which the Fighters (Cataclysm) and Mages can benefit from.

\n\n\n\n

The other core skills

\n\n\n\n

After deciding on which of those abilities is best suited for your Ashes of Creation experience, it is time to combine them with the rest of the core skills.

\n\n\n\n

Inciting Strikes – The main threat generation skill for both a single target and AOE. It hits everything in front of the tank.

\n\n\n\n

Grapple – Single target pull. Amazing for pulling targets as an opening skill. Visually, it looks cool and everyone from your party can see which enemy you are planning to attack. In case of honest mistake or someone from your party, ninja pulls or over aggro a target – you can pull them back to you and keep your friend safe.

\n\n\n\n

Fortify – Is your best damage mitigation ability. If used when your courage is at max (100/100), it will provide you with a 40% damage reduction for 20 seconds. Furthermore, it will help you with getting that courage back to max. You must have this.

\n\n\n\n

Charge – This is a skill which can help you if you have to traverse distance in a very quick manner. Helps with kitting slow enemies and or to buy time for the healers to heal you up. Every enemy hit on the way will be staggered. Tip: can be used while swimming ;)

\n\n\n\n

Taunt – This skill doesn’t immediately make the target attack you. It helps you build aggro and reduces damage done to anyone, but you with the debuff Humiliated.

\n\n\n\n

Reflect – Increases your block mitigation for the duration of this ability. If an attack occurs within 3 seconds, you will reflect it back to the attacker. This ability generates threat as well.

\n\n\n\n

Supernatural Grit – provides the same level of mitigation towards magic attacks as Grit does for physical attacks.

\n\n\n\n

Rotation

\n\n\n\n

To keep single target aggro – Inciting Strikes + Pulverize + Reflect + Auto Attacks.

\n\n\n\n

To keep AOE aggro – Inciting Strikes + Tremoring Bellow + Shield Assault + Auto Attacks.

\n\n\n\n

In case of ninja pull, wrong targeting or loosing aggro – Taunt and/or Grapple + Inciting Strike + Pulverize.

\n\n\n\n

Maxing out single target damage output – Shield Slam/Shield Assault -> Tremoring Strike with the upgrade Forceful Tremors -> Ground Pound -> Pulverize with the upgrade Punish.

\n\n\n\n

Cooldowns and situational abilities

\n\n\n\n

Some insights/pointers to have in consideration when making your selection of skills if you want to deviate from the planned build:

\n\n\n\n

Currently, the skill Wall is working. It is a cool looking ability, but doesn’t block any movements or projectiles from mobs.

\n\n\n\n

Shake it Off is the only self-healing ability. 10% of your maximum health points, every 30 seconds. Compared to the damage taken per hit and the healing received, this skill is lacking.. Works well with Indomitable Spirit.

\n\n\n\n

Indomitable Spirit is your second-best defensive skill. It is an ability with a 60 seconds cooldown and for 15 seconds you will have 30% more health points and you will receive 30% more healing from skills. Once you have unlocked it and you are more confident in your survival, you can combine it with Aegis.

\n\n\n\n

Absorption Field is one of the ways you can protect your party in cases of not expected enemies or targets, which are having hard hitting aoe spells. 20% of your maximum health will be added to your party members who enter this field.

\n\n\n\n

Rush of Courage will provide you with 100 courage. Usually, it is easy to build up courage. However there are and will be encounters in which you must engage with maxed out courage for mitigation purposes. This skill will help you in those scenarios.

\n\n\n\n

After you have selected the defensive abilities, it is time to check on your offensive skills, again.

\n\n\n\n

Intimidating Aura can help you with maintaining the AOE aggro and with staggering enemies. Thanks to this ability, you can get back to the Tremoring Bellow and Tremoring Strike options. If the AOE snare is no longer needed, you can change it for the trip effect. The same thing is valid for the choice between Shield Assault and Shield Slam.

\n\n\n\n

When Intimidating Aura and Ground Pound are both selected, Tremoring Strike becomes even more valuable.

\n\n\n\n

Aegis and Protect are skills which can help you save party member(s) or get you killed. In PVE there are better solutions – DPS should attack the tank’s target, should not pull if not asked/needed. Best is to leave the pulling to the tanks. The initial threat is important since it may take time to catch up with the aggro. In PVP, these 2 skills can help your healers survive longer.

\n\n\n\n

Tomahawk on it is own is not exactly desired skill. With the upgrade (Tomahawk Trip), it becomes valid option in PVP.

\n\n\n\n

Stamina Skill Tree

These choices are straight forward as Tank. First, Improve your blocking:

\n\n\n\n

Less stamina consumption when blocking
30% less time in which you will be CC’ed.
25% increased effectiveness of your blocks

\n\n\n\n

For the second tree to level up, I have chosen to improve the sprinting. Currently, the stamina cost of rolling can’t be justified, compared to the benefits and stamina cost when blocking.

\n\n\n\n

Melee Weapon

\n\n\n\n

We can choose between 2 types of melee weapons for tanking – 1hand Mace and 1hand Sword.

\n\n\n\n

Both of them are valid options. Base your decision on the needs of your party and the enemy you are facing. Main difference – Swords swing faster, Maces have higher damage per swing.

\n\n\n\n

1hand mace can provide Stagger (might become overkill) or Daze (increase enemy’s casting time)

\n\n\n\n

1hand sword can provide Bleed (overal more damage done), Snare (slow) or Wound (reduce healing).

\n\n\n\n

Range Weapon

\n\n\n\n

Tanks can use range weapons next to melee to help with pulling from distance or provide different debuff, which our main weapon can’t. If you have picked 1hand mace, the bow can provide wound. If you have picked 1hand sword, the bow can provide stagger

Tip: Even if you have Bow out to use for auto attacking, you can still benefit from the shield’s blocking potential when you press your block keybind.

\n\n\n\n

Gearing in Ashes of Creation

\n\n\n\n

Disclaimer: The process is slow! All items which are displayed below are obtainable. Armor and weapons mainly drop in various POIs. Recipes are dropping as well, therefor you can obtain higher rarity if you get high enough crafting skill and have the necessary materials. You can start working on those items as soon as you hit level 10

\n\n\n\n

Side note: I have chosen the rarity level to be “Rare” since I have, and I have seen drops of that rarity, as well as being a realistically crafted rarity. Personally, I am focusing on Jewelcrafting and have the recipes for the selected items. Those items are on the “low end” of what is available.

\n\n\n\n

Once you reach level 16-17, It is recommended to start visiting Citadel of the Steel Bloom in order to acquire the next tier of armor – Rosarium Guard.

\n\n\n\n

Stats

\n\n\n\n

What kind of stats should you be looking for if you are a tank and you want to perform well?

\n\n\n\n

Constitution – increases the maximum health points, armor, physical critical avoidance rating
Strength – increases physical power rating, physical accuracy rating, physical penetration rating
Mentality – increases magical resis, magical critical avoidance rating, max mana

\n\n\n\n

Stick to those 3 if you have hard time acquiring the items mentioned above. Here is why:

\n\n\n\n

Constitution will help you against physical damage and will increase your health pool.
Strength will help you with holding the aggro and will increase the damage against other players as well as the chance to hit them.
Mentality will help you with the mana pool and will reduce the incoming magical damage from PVE and PVP.

\n\n\n\n

Final Thoughts

\n\n\n\n

Planning and reality

\n\n\n\n

After the initial planned abilities, I had to deviate a little. I didn’t change the skills, but rather the order in which I picked them on the journey to level 10. That is based on the encounters and the number of people in my party and their archetypes. Meaning: to stay on top of your game, you should try to be as flexible as possible with the current needs of your party.

\n\n\n\n

I had to pick up the Charge ability before others, since I have found my mobility lacking.

\n\n\n\n

Tip: Currently, you can re-spec for free. Also, you can right click (within game) to deselect chosen skill and pick another.

Yes! This archetype is for those who want to mitigate incoming damage for party/raid members, support allies by debuffing enemies or shielding friends, obstruct enemy attacks and movement.

Choosing Imbued Ammo

The decision every player has to make based on the situation is which type of ammo they need most.
You can choose between Bleed, Snare or Daze.
Imbue Ammo: Barbed – Bleed is overall more damage and adds Cooldown reduction on Barrage. Snipe can turn the bleed into Hemorraging, which results in more damage. However, the bleed effect is accessable through other sources. For example – your weapons. Both of them can add Bleed with auto attacks. Furthermore, you can count on either Fighter or Tank from your party for stacking Bleed as well. Ranger can use Thorns on the Tank.
Imbue Ammo: Weighted – reducing movement speed. It is useful in combination with Bear Trap and Air Strike. The Snare effect can be found on your Ranged weapon as well as on your Melee weapon. A Tank can provide AOE snare if Tremoring Bellow is used.
Imbue Ammo: Concussive – increasing the magical cast time. Headshot will have more penetration (25%) against Dazed targets. If you add Thundering Shot before the Headshot, the physical penetration will become 50%. So far, there is 1 other source of Daze debuff – auto attacks from One hand mace.

Start with Fireball – for single target damage. Early on, the mobs will not have as many health points and a single Fireball will be more than enough to bring them down. Use auto attacks to save mana. Swap to Firebolt once you unlock Combust. Firebolt is better for stacking Burning from which Combust can benefit.

Pick Bombardment as soon as you make your choice of Fireball or Firebolt.

\n\n\n\n

Magma Field is the other fire skill. On its own, it is not really that amazing. The upgrade Pyromania provides 2 additional ticks of 50% burning damage. At the early stages of the game, there are better options, which leads to this ability to be picked this close to level 20.

\n\n\n\n

Lightning skills

\n\n\n\n

Lightning Strike – is a single target skill until upgraded – Amplified Lightning Strike. Fully charged Lightning Strike can provide more damage output than Chain Lightning before the upgrad with Aftershock.

\n\n\n\n

Chain Lightning is the next in line skill from the Lighting school. It starts to shine with the Aftershock upgrade, when you hit targets with Staggered. This debuff can by applied by your Fire skills (Bombardment), by a Tank (Charge, Shield Assault) or a Fighter (Form Of Celerity).

\n\n\n\n

Ball Lightning is a rather unique skill – it creates a ball of lighting which travels from your location towards the location you are currently aiming. One target can be hit multiple times, especially if they are slowed or rooted. Furthermore, the skill applies Volatile, which buffs up the damage output. The other method of having Volatile debuff on the target is by using auto attacks with a wand.

\n\n\n\n

Frost skills

\n\n\n\n

Frostbolt – single target skill, best suited for PVP scenarios. Potential good combination: Accelerative Blink + Frostbolt.
From the frost school, the two most used abilities are Hoarfrost and Cone of Cold – the first spell Chills the targets, the second spell can make the chilled targets Frozen. The upgrade Tempestuous Cone Of Cold becomes meaningless in this combination – you can’t push back rooted targets.
The combination above continues with the Shatter passive. After the targets are Frozen, use fully charged Lightning Strike.
Blizzard – is a skill on a 90 seconds cooldown, which essentially applies chill and freeze on targets in close proximity to you. The skill type is “channeling”, which means you can move around, but any other activity will stop the skill. Currently, the damage output is lacking, the cooldown is huge and not being able to use other abilities are the reasons placing this skill on the “not desired” list.

Arcane skills

\n\n\n\n

Arcane Volley – The starting skill of any Mage.

\n\n\n\n

Blink – The skill can help you with keeping your distance from your enemies or chasing after them. The upgrade Unyielding Blink is useful if you get caught and Accelerative Blink can help you with chasing.

\n\n\n\n

Shell – will help you live through a lot of punishment.

\n\n\n\n

Slumber – great skill if you are soloing content or in PVP scenarios to shake off reletless Fighters.

\n\n\n\n

Arcane Circle – 130% bonus magical power boost if you stand in the circle for 15 seconds. This is major cooldown, which you should use wisely – use it if you are certain that in the next 15 seconds you can stay within the circle to fully benefit from the skill. Tip: Use Prismatic Beam at the last second(s) before the skill expires.

Other important upgrades

Shatter, Thermal Equilibrium and Fuse – These upgrades expand the rotation of the mage abilities outside of their respectful magical schools.

The only reason for a Mage to be up close is to apply a needed debuff with a weapon. The most common debuff, which might be missing and is needed, is Wounded.

Use the weapon with the highest available magic power.

\n\n\n\n

Range Weapon

Third choice – Special Extended Finisher: Echo. This one will provide 25% chance to use 2 Finishers at the same time.

Increasing the proc rate of the Finishers is extremely important for the Mage.

Equipment

Single target healing

\n\n\n\n

Deliverance – charging skill. Once the upgrade Redemptive Deliverance is taken, a full charge may become massive overheal. As there is no way(at the moment) to turn the overheal into anything else but wasted mana and charging time, it’s best to deliver the heal right away.

\n\n\n\n

Flash Cure – extremely useful skill as it can be used while charging Deliverance.

\n\n\n\n

Defiant Light – a life saver skill. However, the mana cost is not to be underestimated – 2-3 times higer than other skills.

\n\n\n\n

Judgment – Long cooldown. Use for healing, if the other 3 skills are not available.

\n\n\n\n

Purify – can remove debuffs which are reducing the healing on target. Extremely useful against zombies.

\n\n\n\n

AOE healing

\n\n\n\n

Resplendent Beam – a chain heal ability if charged. Consider taking it early if you are in a group which consist mainly of melee players.

\n\n\n\n

Divine Flare – placing large circle on the ground, which will heal after delay. It can be upgraded to provide additional magic mitigation – Divine Protection or AOE damage – Divine Retribution.

\n\n\n\n

Consecrating Wave – this skill can become an AOE heal with the upgrade Restorative Consecrating Wave. When the skill damages enemies it will apply Volatile debuff. Consider this ability if you are in a group with mages, regularly.

\n\n\n\n

Communal Restoration – It will heal everyone in your party as long as they are in range. Convenient but expensive AOE heal. This skill has the shorted cooldown from all AOE heals.

\n\n\n\n

Offensive capabilities

\n\n\n\n

Judgment + Smite + Condemn will stun your target.

\n\n\n\n

Divine Retribution + Consecrating Wave will remove a buff from the targets hit.

\n\n\n\n

If you are not aiming to dispel buffs, use Consecrating Wave as opener to do more damage with your skills.

\n\n\n\n

Use Bountiful Blessed Weapon to solve some of the mana challenges in your party.

\n\n\n\n

If you have a Fighter in your group and have acquired the Chains of Restraint skill, communicate to combine their Battle Cry with your ability for 4 seconds root.

Compared to damage dealing archetypes, on Cleric we should focus on proc rates and proc duration.

\n\n\n\n

Use whichever weapon will provide the most magical power increase until you get your hands on the highest magical power weapon, for level 20 and above – Blood Cursed Spellbook in Tower of Carphin.

Equipment

\n\n\n\n

The chosen equipment is full heavy. The main reason behind is that Tanks, Fighters and Rangers are doing physical damage and they are most likely to focus down on healers. The other options for healers is to wear medium gear – Rosethorn Tunic. You will have to share this set with the bards.

1 Magic power increase provides the same amount of healing as it would 1 Healing power. However, Healing power is not boosting the Magic damage.

\n\n\n\n

Stats

\n\n\n\n

Hunting in Ashes of Creation

Hunting is a skill in Ashes of Creation that allows you to hunt and capture all different types of animals out in the wilderness. This can vary from Ravens all the way to Gryphons. Depending on the animal you capture, you will either get its carcass, which can be used, typically at a tanning or cooking station, or you can obtain the whole animal itself and use it for animal husbandry.

\n\n\n\n

As the game is still in Alpha, it is to be expected many changes will come to how hunting works, especially with how you “hunt”.

\n\n\n\n

Firstly, before you go off out hunting. You will need to make sure you have a Crude Hunting Bow, which can easily be checked by going to your character screen with the “H” key on your keyboard and clicking the artisan tab. If you do not have the hunting bow, then you will need to complete the starting zone quests such as “The Sweat of Your Brow”, which will give you all the basic tools to get started.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Once you have got your hunting bow, it’s now time to go off into the world and go exploring. You are looking for any animals that are in white writing with a crosshair icon next to them. As you can see below.

\n\n\n\n

Here is a list of some of the animals that you can hunt straight away at level 1:

Grem
Horse
Bear
Raven
Wolf
Pallas cat
Spider

At this current time, during the development of the game, the animals that you can hunt do not move at all. So you can simply walk up to it and press the “F” key. Which will begin to do a petting animation.

\n\n\n\n

Once this is complete, it will obtain its carcass, ready to be processed into something further.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

However, depending on what you hunt, the outcome can be different. For example, if you attempt to hunt a Bear or a Pallas Cat. You won’t always get the carcass, but you will get the animal itself. Which is used for animal husbandry.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

What To Do With Your Hunted Animals

\n\n\n\n

Now that you have hunted some animals, you are probably asking yourself, what do i do with all of this inventory. Well, there are a few key purposes that we know of which they can be used for, such as animal husbandry, cooking or the tanning station. You may also notice they can be used for townboard jobs too.

\n\n\n\n

The Animal

\n\n\n\n

If you have obtained the animal itself, such as a bear, you can actually take it to the animal husbandry station in the town.

\n\n\n\n

For the price of some fuel, the animal and some silver, you can have the chance to turn your animal into a tame for yourself to ride or a tame that can pull caravans, which can help benefit you when you move cargo from one town to another. But this will all vary depending on the percentage of the possible outcome.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

The Animal Carcass

\n\n\n\n

If you have managed to hunt something like a Grem and got the carcass of the animal, it can be taken to the tanning station. Where you can skin the carcass with the possible outcome of Grem Skin, Animal Fat and Bones.

\n\n\n\n

These can then be used for a variety of things, such as the skin can be used at the leatherworking or the tailoring station. Where you can craft either light or medium armor. Bones can be taken to the Arcane Engineering station to create pylons and spellbooks and then the animal fat can be turned into oil.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Another alternative you can do with the carcass of the animal that you have hunted, is that you can take it to the cooking station, where you can turn it into butchered meat, ready for all different kinds of recipes.

\n\n\n\n

What To Do Next And How To Progress

\n\n\n\n

Now that you know what to do when you have hunted an animal, it’s time to keep going until you reach level 10 in this skill. We understand it is a tedious and slow process, but you can actually craft the Novice Hunting Bow with no requirements from the Hunting Tools station.

\n\n\n\n

This upgrade gives you a Hunting Speed Increase, which can help you get to level 10 faster.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Once you have reached level 10, you will now be able to get the Apprentice Certificate for hunting. This is a huge deal, because as long as a town has the hunting station upgraded, you can unlock and craft the Apprentice Hunting Bow, which will allow you to hunt way bigger and better animals.

\n\n\n\n

One of the locations that we found to promote your hunting certificate that is guaranteed, is south of Winstead. Where you can locate and talk to the Cookhouse Executive Chef as shown in the images below.

This should cover all the basics of hunting skill, although we do expect much more to come in later stages of development, such as a better way to capture the animal and artisan skill trees that can have benefits to being a much higher skill.

Fishing in Ashes of Creation

Fishing in Ashes of Creation in this current alpha state isn’t the best, but the foreseeable future for this skill is going to be amazing from what the developers have promised. It doesn’t just offer the traditional, lake and river fishing, but they have promised to give us deep sea fishing, which will be perfect when you are out of combat and sailing around on your ship.

\n\n\n\n

In order to start fishing, you first must get a fishing rod. This can be easily obtained when completing the “the sweat of your brow” side quest at any of the starting towns.

\n\n\n\n

You can check if you have a crude fishing rod by simply pressing the H key on your keyboard. This will open up your character screen, then by selecting the artisan tab, you will see the fishing rod on your character.

\n\n\n\n

How to Fish

\n\n\n\n

As we are in such early stages of the game, you do not actually need any bait at the moment, so this means you are ready to go and fish! So empty your inventory and let’s get going.

\n\n\n\n

Find a lake or river that you like the look of and head to that location. It’s now time to pull your rod out. Myself and many others were very confused about how to do this as the game gives you no explanation, but it’s a simple case of opening your skill tree with the “K” and clicking the skill book.

\n\n\n\n

Here you will see the fishing section. It has the fishing skill and the fishing pylon skill too.

\n\n\n\n

If you wish to use a fishing pylon which can boost your fishing skill by enhancing your fishing efficiency, then you will need to craft one from the Arcane Engineering table.

\n\n\n\n

But, drag the Fishing skill into your hot bar and head to the lake.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Click the spell, and it will pull your rod out and cast it into the water. Now it is a waiting game.

\n\n\n\n

As we previously mentioned, fishing is at a very early stage, so this means you do not actually need to do anything but wait. Your character will automatically fish and you won’t need to press any buttons.

\n\n\n\n

The bar at the bottom of your screen does not mean too much except once it’s at the end, you will have the chance to either capture a fish or not.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

If you have successfully captured a fish, open your bag and click on the materials tab. You will see the fish located here. It will continue to keep fishing without stopping, so you can easily walk away to cancel this or just keep fishing and be semi-afk.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

What To Do With Your Fish

\n\n\n\n

If you are done with fishing, then you will be wondering what to do with the fish that you have just got.

\n\n\n\n

Fish can be used primarily for cooking, but alternatively, then they can be used at the Arcane Engineering station to create survey pylons, but also be used for the town jobs too. Exchanging your fish and completing the jobs will earn you tokens. These tokens can be used to purchase all sorts of items from the town vendor, such as an excellent cloak.

\n\n\n\n

If you wish to cook the fish that you have caught, then head to any major town, where you can locate a cooking station. Using this station allows you to turn your fish into fillets. Which can then be turned into a recipe of your choice.

\n\n\n\n

That pretty much covers the basics of fishing on Ashes of Creation in this current state.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Fishing Progression

\n\n\n\n

As you are fishing, you maybe wondering if there are any benefits or upgrades to fishing? Well, yes, you can catch a whole new variety of different fish, but this will require level 10 in this skill to craft the next tier fishing pole. However, if you just want a new shiny fishing pole that has better durability and a better speed increase rate, then you can head to a fishing station within a town and craft the Novice Fishing Pole.

\n\n\n\n

As the nodes progress and the crafting stations upgrade, the next tier of tools will become available to craft for players, such as the Apprentice Fishing Pole. This will give you a chance for better fish such as salmon. Which of course will be needed for even better cooking recipes.

\n\n\n\n

In order to craft and use the next tier of fishing pole called the “Apprentice Fishing Pole”, you first need to reach level 10 in the skill, you will then be eligible to promote your artisan skill certificate for that skill at the Fishing NPC. Acquiring your new certificate will allow you to use the new fishing pole recipe. This will replace your current fishing pole instantly, so you are ready to go and catch a whole new range of fish.

\n\n\n\n

If you wish to promote your current Fishing certificate, then head south of Winstead and talk to the Cookhouse Executive Chef as shown in the images below. Talking to this NPC will allow you to upgrade this, and you should be able to catch better quality or different fish when this system is in place.

Lots of changes will come to fishing, but it’s just a waiting game. We were told there would be no auto fishing and deep sea fishing, but we currently have a very bland system due to being in an alpha state of the game. So we will wait and see what happens.

Processing is one of the three essential artisan skills in Ashes of Creation, serving as the crucial middle step in crafting final products like weapons and armor. First, you will need to gather resources using the gathering skill. Then, you can use a processing station to refine these materials, making them ready for the crafting stations where you can create the final product.

All the processing stations that are available are Weaving, Stonemasonry, Animal Husbandry, Farming, Metalworking, Cooking, Lumbermilling, Alchemy and Tanning. All stations are marked with a purple icon on your map.

\n\n\n\n

Weaving

\n\n\n\n

The weaving skill in Ashes of Creation allows you to create essential materials like thread, warp, and fiber. To get started with this process, you’ll need to gather resources such as flax and cotton, which can be found all around the map.

\n\n\n\n

Once collected, these raw materials can be taken to the weaving station in a main town where you can transform them into the correct thread, which is a crucial component to used with the Tailoring skill.

\n\n\n\n

Stonemasonry

\n\n\n\n

Stonemasonry is a very interesting processing skill in Ashes of Creation, as it ties perfectly with the mining gathering skill. This is because it allows you to turn all the mined ores that you have gathered, like basalt and zinc, into a variety of different things, such as stone blocks or molds. Crafting molds will always be needed if you wish to create weapons or armor.

\n\n\n\n

Additionally, stonemasonry allows you to cut all the gems you have found too, which is perfect if you wish to take up the crafting skill of jewelcrafting.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Animal Husbandry

\n\n\n\n

Animal Husbandry is a skill that can give you the chance to craft a rideable mount or a tame that can be used for your caravan, this will be needed when you decide to move some cargo from one town to another.

\n\n\n\n

In order to obtain one of these, you will first need the hunting skill. Then you will need to look for specific types of animals to hunt throughout the world. If successful, you can then take it to the animal husbandry station with around 55 silver too, where you will have the chance to craft one for a possible outcome of a mount to ride and show off to other players or a tame which can be ready to pull your caravan.

Farming

\n\n\n\n

Farming is a skill that will often be used when you manage to get your own plot within a town. There are a variety of things you can do within the farming station. One of the main things to use it for is to create mulch from animal droppings that you have found when killing beasts with a combination of plants such as daffodils that you have gathered with herbalism.

\n\n\n\n

Crafting mulch will be a must when farming in Ashes of Creation because it enables you to grow various fruits and vegetables. To do this, you’ll need the seeds of the desired fruit or vegetable, some water, and mulch. With these ingredients, you can create a wide range of different produce.

\n\n\n\n

Metalworking

\n\n\n\n

The metalworking station is going to be one of the key stations that you will use the most when you play Ashes of Creation. This is because it acts as the “middle man” when you want to turn your raw gathered ore into something else such as jewelry, weapons or armor.

\n\n\n\n

A metalworking station is essentially just another name for a smelting station which allows you to place ore such as copper and zinc into it, where it produces fragments of that ore, you will now have one of the key resources which is now ready to be used in a craftng station of your choice.

\n\n\n\n

Cooking

\n\n\n\n

Cooking is a vital skill within Ashes of Creation, as there is no real way of healing yourself without playing with a healer class in your party. This means you will be relying on rations and salve for the most part. Unless you have some good recipes for cooking, this will allow you to be able to create better food that can either regenerate your health and mana faster or just give you better stats.

The cooking station is important as it allows you to take all the fish you have found or from all the animals you have hunted and turn them into meat. Upon changing it to meat, you can then turn this into one of your favorite recipes.

Lumber Milling

\n\n\n\n

Lumber Milling acts exactly like metalworking, but instead of ore, it is for wood. This station allows you to take any wood that you have chopped down with the lumberjacking skill and refine it into either timber or woodchips.

\n\n\n\n

Although there are many reasons to use timber or woodchips, we have noticed timber is mainly used with the Arcane Engineering skill, which allows you to create survey pylons, and woodchips can be combined with animal droppings in the farming station to create mulch for farming.

Alchemy

\n\n\n\n

The Alchemy skill allows you to break down resources such as flowers and gems into a powder. This powder can then be turned into ink or salve,

Crafting salve is highly recommended when you are first starting out as it allows you to gain a set amount of health or mana every 2 seconds for 20 seconds, which helps massively when you are leveling or questing.

\n\n\n\n

Although if you decide to craft ink instead, you can then use this ink as a base resource at the scribing station to create scrolls. Scrolls can give you additional stat buffs for a set amount of time. An example of a scroll that can be used is one that gives you more experience for a period of time.

Tanning

\n\n\n\n

Tanning is another vital skill for players as it works very well with hunting and leatherworking. When you hunt animals out in the wilderness, you can have the chance to get a carcass of it, which you can then bring the carcass to a tanning station. Here it gives you the animal skin, bones and animal fat from the carcass.

\n\n\n\n

The animal skin, you can take this to either the leatherworking or the tailoring station. Where you can craft either light or medium armor. Bones can be taken to the Arcane Engineering station to create pylons and spellbooks and then the animal fat can be turned into oil.
