As the current state of the game, There are 5 tools for 5 different gathering methods. These are Bow (hunting), Fishing Pole (Fishing), Pickaxe (Mining), Sickle (Herbalism) and Axe (Lumberjacking). During the beginning quests, You acquire all of the tools with the Novice rarity. Take note that you can only upgrade your Gathering Tools through Crafting and cannot be bought or traded with other players.

To gather higher rarity of items, the tool used must be on the same rarity or higher. So Make sure that you must upgrade your gathering tools and don`t leave them at novice level if you want to craft much higher equipment later on in the game.

Artisan Gear (Gathering Profession)

Each Gathering Skill has its own unique Artisan Gear and it consists of 3 parts. Shirt, Pants, and Tool Belt. Also, there are 3 levels of Gathering Profession. At the Novice Level, you can equip a Shirt only. At Apprentice Level you can equip Shirt and Pants and at the Journeyman Level, You can equip 3 artisan gear all at once. Artisan Gear also gives general stats aside from giving the Gathering Skill stats mentioned earlier.

Bags

\n\n\n\n

Bags serve as storage for your gathered materials. There are different types of Bags but resources can be stored on any bag. These bags are Mining, Fishing, Lumberjacking, Herbalism, and Hunting Bag. But a quick tip for you is that the Mining Bag is the most efficient since it has a larger size compared to the other bags.

Consumables

\n\n\n\n

There are three types of consumables that can increase your efficiency of gathering. These are Scrolls, Elixirs, Food and Pylons. Each of them have their specific effect which will be discussed below.

Scrolls

\n\n\n\n

Scrolls provide a gathering XP buff for 3 hours. There are Scroll of Mining wherein it increases your Mining XP. Novice and Journeyman Rarity of Scrolls can be bought from mining vendors. Another type of scrolls are like a general version which is a Gathering Experience Scroll. However, Novice level of rarity can only be bought from the laboratory and to craft the apprentice level and journeyman level of the same scroll it can be done through crafting with scribes. Take note that these scrolls do not require a high level of gathering skill. They can be bought for a Novice gathering level.

Elixir

These consumables can be crafted by alchemists found in laboratories in tier 3 or Higher. The general buff for gathering is quite tedious since it requires 5 different tier-3 materials. On the other hand, the specialized gathering elixir only requires 3 ingredients wherein the 2 is purchased only from the vendor.

Food

\n\n\n\n

Food made by cooks are a buff that increases the rarity rating of the gathering. Same with elixirs, there are general food which gives buff for general gatherings and a specialized one for a specialized gathering type buff. Also, the higher the rarity of the food buff the more complex the ingredients are but Food buffs also give combat buffs as a side bonus and it lasts 60 minutes so crafting it is quite worth it.

Pylons

\n\n\n\n

This is a placable item on the ground that has an Area of Effect buff within the radius of it. Pylons also has two types, A general one and a specialized one. The higher rarity of the pylons the greater the increase in gathering stats.

Mounts and Archetypes

\n\n\n\n

Gathering takes a lot of movement since you will be roaming around the map looking for gathering sources or nodes. It is best to take a good and fast mount to traverse faster. Also, A ranger archetype has a 10 percent movement speed buff and a skill that can also increase 20 percent speed. Also, rangers have a skill to climb terrains to further access nodes for gathering.

Node Buff

While looking for Node resources for your gathering. Make sure to check the status effect of your character found on the top of your screen. Sometimes node’s location have a buff which increases the speed of gathering.

Certification Level

Each 10-level gathering grants a certification level. So a certification grants the character to craft higher-tier tools. Once equipped, these tools are improved version that further increases the speed, rarity, and quantity of gathering. It also increases your progression rate by a large margin. Lumberjacking

\n\n\n\n

Lumberjacking is the easiest gathering type since trees are found easily from afar and they are abundant in almost every terrain. Also, Lumberjacking is used in milling, carpentry, farming, metalworking, and scribing and also serves as a fuel for processing. There are six types of trees found around the world of Ashes of Creation.

\n\n\n\n

Tier 1 Trees (Oak, Ashi, Western Larch, Eastern Hemlock)

\n\n\n\n

Oak is found almost everywhere and it is considered to be the most common.

\n\n\n\n

Ashi is the second most common and can be found also easily alongside oak

\n\n\n\n

Western Larch is a rarer type of tree in this tier and they can be found along the mountains and in the northern and northwestern parts of the map

\n\n\n\n

Eastern hemlock is the rarest in terms of tier 1 trees. They spawn at the same location as the western larch and western larch and eastern hemlock are adolescent trees and you can only gather 2 pieces of wood per tree.

Tier 2 Trees (Weeping Willow)

Novice miners can mine basalt, granite, zinc, copper, and ruby. Basalt and Granite are easy to find. However, when it comes to copper and zinc, you can only detect them through heat maps and these two resources are viable for crafting and processing skills.

Apprentice Mining Level

Upon reaching this level, Miners can get slate, tin, emerald, and halcyonite.

Journeyman Mining Level

In the final stage of mining, miners can unlock mining of Limestone, Wyrdstone, Iron, Lumadon, and Sapphire where it is considered a higher rarity of gems.

Herbalism

A method of gathering that focuses on plants. The plants are commonly used in weaving, tailoring, alchemy, cooking, and other artisan professions. The difficulty of this gathering type is the same as mining.

Novices can gather daffodils, snowdrops, and flax. they are tier-1 herbalism items and are easy to find around the map. The difference is flax is much harder to get in abundance since they do not spawn in clusters. But, They can be planted and harvested through buying flax seeds from a vendor.

Apprentice Herbalism Level

Players can gather Giant Bluebell and Moonbell in this level.

Journeyman Herbalism Level

Hunting

The metalworking skill is primarily designed to be the “middle-man” by smelting your ore that you have mined into ingots/fragments, then using these processed goods at a refining station, which allows you to craft items such as new tools, armor and weapons.

Getting started

\n\n\n\n

Now that you have had a short introduction about the skill, it’s time to tell you how to get started. But before you decide to start leveling the metalworking skill, we strongly recommend taking on the gathering skill too, Mining.

\n\n\n\n

Mining and the Metalworking skill, work in sync perfectly as all the ore that you have mined can be smelted at the metalworking station.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

In order to get started, simply head to any major town and locate the Metalworking station. Interact with it by pressing the “F” key, where you will see the first set of recipes that you can craft Copper Fragments and Zinc Fragments.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Add the resource you wish to use, such as Zinc, and click the “Fuel” button. Here you will want to select the amount of fuel that is required to process your ore. We always recommend using wood as it’s super easy to get, but it also counts as a high amount of fuel. Now click the craft button and come back when the timer is done and the processing is ready.

\n\n\n\n

Batch Processing

\n\n\n\n

If you are wondering how you can craft more than just one, you can click the Job Size button on the top right and select the batch you would like to craft (1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 250). The only downside to this, is that you must have the exact amount of resources. You can not select a batch of 20 and bring only 19. You will have to do a batch of 15 and 4 separate batches of 1, in order to do this.

A novice metalworking station also only allows you to que 1 job a time. So we recommend doing big batches at once, then coming back when its cooked, to be the most efficient.

In order to find and use better recipes at the metalworking station, it will require two things. One, you will need to be level 10 in the crafting skill.

\n\n\n\n

Two, you will need to find a town which has an upgraded station called “Apprentice Metalworking Station”. This station will reveal and show you all new apprentice recipes that can be crafted.

\n\n\n\n

Metalworking Upgrades

\n\n\n\n

Now that we have explained the general basics of metalworking, we strongly advise visiting a metalworking vendor. This vendor will allow you to purchase clothing. This can hugely benefit you.

\n\n\n\n

Purchasing items such as a Novice Metalworker’s Shirt, will allow you to have the chance for a greater quantity of the resource or better rarity when it’s processed, which is very beneficial later on when you wish to craft better quality weapons and armor down the line at the crafting stations.

How To Progress Further

\n\n\n\n

Once you have hit level 10 in metalworking, it’s time to find a town that has an independent plot called “The Smithy”. The Smithy has an upgraded “Apprentice Metalworking Station” within the plot. Which allows you to craft and see the next tier of recipes.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Although you can not use the new apprentice recipes straight away as you MUST talk to the Smithy Foreman NPC in the plot and upgrade your metalworking certificate. This will allow you to reach level 20 in the skill now and also allow you to use all apprentice recipes.

Lumberjacking in Ashes of Creation

Lumberjacking, also known as woodcutting in Ashes of Creation, is a core artisan skill just like mining. It allows you to cut down a variety of different types and sizes of trees. These can then be processed to make timber, woodchips, warp and charcoal.

\n\n\n\n

The reason why Lumberjacking is a super important skill, is that all the wood you gather is required to pretty much craft anything within the game. If you are planning on crafting a new set of tools, more cargo for your caravan or even a whole new carriage, then it will all require wood from the lumberjacking skill.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Getting Started

\n\n\n\n

Now that we have given you a short introduction to lumberjacking, it’s time to get yourself a Crude Lumberjacking Axe, so you can be ready to start cutting down some trees.

\n\n\n\n

To get yourself started, you will first need to complete some of the quests which are given to you in the starting zone. You are mainly looking for the quest “The Sweat Of Your Brow”. As this gives you all the basic tools to get you started.

\n\n\n\n

If you are unsure if you have got the lumberjacking axe already, you can simply open up your character screen by pressing the “H” key on your keyboard and clicking the artisan tab.

\n\n\n\n

Once you have got the axe, it’s time to start cutting down trees for wood. As trees are literally everywhere, it shouldn’t be a problem for you to find them and start cutting them down. The main issue that you will realise later on is that you will need a particular type of wood later on for processing.

\n\n\n\n

This is where our interactive map is perfect. It shows all the locations of where you can find these trees.

\n\n\n\n

Here is a list of trees that you can cut at level 1 as a Novice Lumberjack:

To cut the tree itself, it’s a simple case of walking up to the tree and pressing the “F” key on your keyboard. This will allow your character to go into a tree cutting animation, where it will cut the tree down. Once successful, the wood will go directly into your inventory. You will also notice trees can give you more or less yield depending on the size of the tree itself.

What to do with the Wood

\n\n\n\n

Once you have finished cutting trees, it’s now time to determine what you do with the wood exactly. The first place you can take the wood to is the Requisition Agent by the Storage Clerk in any major town. Tasks here can require wood. Once completed, this can help advance the town and node.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

The wood that you gather can also be used as a good source of fuel. Fuel is required when you want to use any crafting station, as wood is very fast and easy to get, it can offer a high amount of fuel per 1 wood, which is highly recommended when doing big crafts.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

If you want to process your wood that you collected, then you will need to find a lumbermilling station. You can then turn the wood into either timber or woodchips.

\n\n\n\n

Timber can be used in many crafts. This can range from beams, planks, saw dust, boards, tools and weapons. Timber can also be used to craft caravan carriages and wooden crates, which will be needed when you want to travel with large amounts of cargo.

\n\n\n\n

Woodchips, then this can be turned into Mulch for farming or Paper which is used for scrolls, guild war declaration scrolls, treasure maps and spellbooks.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Alternatively, you can also use your wood at the weaving station, where you can craft Warp, which can then be further crafted into items like a farming basket.

\n\n\n\n

How To Progress Further

\n\n\n\n

Now that you know how to lumberjack in Ashes of Creation and you know what to do with the wood that you have gathered. It’s now time to explain what you can do next.

\n\n\n\n

To progress further and be able to cut better trees such as Weeping Willow. You will need to reach level 10 in lumberjacking. This can take alot of time, so we recommend getting a few items beforehand, which can help speed up the leveling process massively.

\n\n\n\n

The first item you will want to craft yourself is a Novice Lumberjacking Axe at a Lumberjack Tool station in any major town whenever you get enough resources (mainly copper fragments). This axe allows you to chop trees at a faster rate, which allows you to level faster.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

We also recommend speaking to the lumberjack vendor and purchasing yourself a Novice Lumberjack’s Shirt and a Novice Lumberjacking Satchel. This will allow you to have more storage for your wood and wearing the shirt will give you an even higher gathering speed rating. Which ties perfectly with the Novice Lumberjacking Axe.

\n\n\n\n

Novice Lumberjack Survey Pylons are good too, but as they are for a temporary use, we recommend purchasing them later on when you are ready to start crafting, as they increase the chance of getting better quality wood.

Once you have hit level 10 in Lumberjacking, it’s time to find a town that has an independent plot that contains a Woodshop. The Woodshop have a Lumberjacking Tools – Apprentice station. Which allows you to craft the next tier axe called the Apprentice Lumberjacking Axe.

Although you can not use the axe straight away. You MUST talk to the Woodshop Foreman NPC in the plot and upgrade your lumberjacking certificate first. This will now allow you to reach level 20 in your lumberjacking skill and also allow you to cut Weeping Willow trees down.

Herbalism is a core gathering skill within Ashes of Creation. This skill allows players to gather a wide variety of herbs and flowers from the open world, which can then be processed later on into a wide selection of items.

This skill is extremely important as there are so many different crafting stations that require herbs and flowers from the herbalism skill. Which ranges from cooking, alchemy, farming and weaving. For example, if you wish to craft better bows or light armor, then you must process flax into linen thread at the weaving station. But as herbs do not have “set” locations. These hold a higher value, which means crafters will always be after these items.

\n\n\n\n

Getting Started

\n\n\n\n

In order to get started with this skill, you first must get yourself a sickle. This can be obtained once completing the starting zone side quest called “The Sweat Of Your Brow”. You will be given all the basic artisan tools, such as the Crude Herbalism Sickle.

\n\n\n\n

If you are unsure if you have obtained this, you can press the “H” key and click the Artisan tab. Where you can see it here. As seen in the image below.

\n\n\n\n

Once you have got the sickle, you are nearly ready to get out there and get gathering! But beforehand, get yourself to any vendor in a main town and purchase yourself a Novice Herbalism Satchel. This allows you to have even more space for the herbs and flowers that you find.

\n\n\n\n

As seen in the image below, it gives you 4 additional slots to store your herbs.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Now you are finally ready! Head out into the wildness, and you can start exploring and looking for herbs to gather. Sadly, as there is no fixed location for these herbs to spawn. We strongly recommend using our heat map feature that we have on our interactive map to find a rough guidance of where these herbs can spawn.

\n\n\n\n

As you will be level 1 in the skill and will start with the Novice certificate. You can only actually gather and cut 4 different herbs.

\n\n\n\n

Daffodil
Flax
Snowdrop
Wilted Snowdrop

\n\n\n\n

Wilted Snowdrops and Flax are alot rarer to find, although Daffodils and Snowdrop flowers are actually very common to discover, and you will notice multiple patches of these that will spawn next to each other, so you can gather loads of them at once.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

What To Do With Your Herbs and Flowers

\n\n\n\n

Now that you have gathered the herbs and flowers, you may question what I exactly do with these resources. Well, there are multiple purposes. One of them is that you can take your herbs to townboard jobs and hand them in there, which can benefit upgrading the node.

\n\n\n\n

If you discover the herb Flax, you can take it to the weaving station. Where you can process this into Linen thread. Linen thread can then be used to create a variety of different items, such as light armor, fishing rods, bows, satchels and scribing scrolls.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Another reason why Herbalism is such a key skill, is that the flowers and herbs can be used at the cooking station, to create spices. These spices can allow you to craft all sorts of different cooking recipes, such as grilled steaks and stews.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

If you are interested in Alchemy, then this is another reason you will want to level up your herbalism skill. The alchemy station gives you the ability to grind the flowers and herbs down into powder. Allowing you to craft all sorts, which range from salves, potions, scribing scrolls and even crafting wands.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Then lastly, if you are interested in leveling the farming skill. Then we recommend heading to any farming station in a main town. Using herbs such as daffodils with a combination of droppings (which can be dropped by beast enemies). You can turn these ingredients into mulch. Mulch can then be used in farming to create items like apples and wheat.

\n\n\n\n

How To Progress Further

\n\n\n\n

Now that you have learned how to level your herbalism skill and what to do with the herbs and flowers that you have found. It’s time to explain what you can do next in order to advance your skill.

\n\n\n\n

In order to advance your skill from a Novice to Apprentice, you will first need to reach level 10 in Herbalism. You can press the “P” Key and click the Gathering tab, which will show you the Herbalism level that you’re currently at.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

We understand leveling to 10 on any artisan skill takes alot of time and can be very tedious. This is why we recommend getting a few things beforehand to help you level faster.

\n\n\n\n

The first item we suggest you create is the Novice Herbalism Sickle. This sickle significantly boosts your gathering speed, which will benefit you massively in the long run. We recommend crafting it first since you can make and equip it right from level 1.

\n\n\n\n

Head to any Herbalism tool station in a town, and you will see the recipe there.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

The next item we suggest picking up the Novice Herbalist’s Shirt. When you manage to come across a herbalism vendor. This shirt significantly boosts your speed and conveniently fits under your armor, allowing you to gather herbs without the hassle of constantly equipping and removing it.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Once you reach level 10, you will notice you can not actually gather any more experience. But this is great news. It’s time to upgrade your herbalism certificate.

\n\n\n\n

To upgrade your herbalism skill, you will first need to find a town that has an Agricultural Supply plot. This allows the town to have an apprentice herbalism, farming and animal husbandry station.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Visit the Agricultural Supply area and find the Agricultural Supplier. This NPC can upgrade your herbalism certificate from Novice to Apprentice for free.

\n\n\n\n

Once you have spoken to the NPC, you will now be able to craft the next tier sickle called the Apprentice Herbalism Sickle.

\n\n\n\n

If you interact with the Herbalism Tools station in this plot, you will notice the new sickle is there and eligible to be crafted by you.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

With your new certificate and apprentice sickle in hand, you can now reach level 20 in this skill. More importantly, you’ll be able to harvest two exciting new herbs: Moonbell and Giant Bluebells.

In this Firebrand Boss Guide, we will show you how to defeat it, strategies to discuss with your team and discuss the mechanics he has. Firebrand Boss Guide in Ashes of Creation – Firebrand Details

\n\n\n\n

The first thing you need to know is the Firebrand Details. Firebrand is a dragon that is tiered 5-star. It is Level 25 with a health of 923,047. Almost a Million! Firebrand is also the current end Game boss. With that said, it also contains the highest-tier loot in the game.

\n\n\n\n

Firebrand Boss Guide in Ashes of Creation (Location)

\n\n\n\n

To start, this boss is located in the South Western corner of Winstead right outside the entrance to the Citadel of the Steelbloom. The respawn area is also near to the boss location, so that is a Plus when fighting the boss later on. However, To spawn the boss. First, you need to clear the quest entitled The Orb of Ultimate Essence.

\n\n\n\n

You first need to fight inside the steelbloom and do a ritual. You will need to defeat enemies and assist the Lady of Rose in completing the ritual. Once completed, head back to the Citadel Gates and you will see a giant dragon flying down. This will be the start of your legendary story in defeating a dragon.

\n\n\n\n

Firebrand Boss Guide in Ashes of Creation (Loot Table)

\n\n\n\n

Since Firebrand is the end-game world boss for Ashes of Creation Alpha-2. The drops are the highest quality and contain Legendary Gear.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Firebrand Mechanics

\n\n\n\n

The Dragon, Firebrand does not have a lot of skills and mechanics in this fight. The damage to each skill is massive, and some can one-shot you if you are not paying attention.

\n\n\n\n

Tailwhip

\n\n\n\n

Just like any other fantasy games and bosses with tails. Firebrand can do tailwhip. The Dragon will do a turnaround and swing his tail 180 degrees in front of him, dealing a small amount of damage. This is the most minimal damage in his skillset.

\n\n\n\n

Heavy Stomp

\n\n\n\n

Firebrand stomps the ground with his giant feet and deals damage in an Area.

\n\n\n\n

Fiery Stomp

\n\n\n\n

Same mechanic as the heavy stomp, but it deals fire damage and burns anyone who is hit by the skill. To counter this, just debuff the burn effect by the bard’s nimble dance.

\n\n\n\n

Fire Breath

\n\n\n\n

A massive beam of fire that can one-shot you if you eat this whole beam of fire. Everyone should pay attention to the direction of the breath and its target. To reduce the incoming damage, just run out. Another trick would be to move to the back of the dragon as soon as he cast the breath. In this way, the firebrand will just cast it in front and everyone will be safe.

\n\n\n\n

Flame Barrage

\n\n\n\n

This one is another troublesome mechanic. Firebrand will occasionally put a Living Bomb on 6 players. The one who is affected by the bomb will experience damage over time. Not only that, It also blows up, dealing an insane AOE damage and leaving a big charred fire circle that also deals damage to whoever steps on it. To counter this, make sure to dispel the living bomb with the bard’s skill and do not dispel it while near others since it can be fatal to the party. Make sure to run out and dispel.

Bursting Pounce

\n\n\n\n

Firebrand will jump and pounce on someone and deal a aoe of damage when landed. Just make sure the cleric and bard are keeping an eye on you when this happens.

\n\n\n\n

Deep Breath

\n\n\n\n

An aerial attack that can one-shot anyone if hit. It is a mechanic who will shoot fire in a straight line that deals an enormous amount of damage. It can be easily dodged since the animation is obvious, and you can see Firebrand doing it from a mile away.

\n\n\n\n

Add Phase

\n\n\n\n

This can happen three times during the battle. At 75% 50% and 25% Hp. Firebrand will fly away and tons of meteors will succumb to the area. Also, a handful amount of fire elementals will spawn, and you must nuke them because Firebrand will consume them once landed and gain an astonishing 2% dmg buff per fire elemental consumed. Also, during the Add phase, Firebrand can also the deep breaths, so be cautious and observant. To counter this phase, we start nuking the closest fire elemental and clear them as fast as possible while looking up.

\n\n\n\n

Fury Flame

\n\n\n\n

The last mechanic of firebrand, wherein he will channel and shoot a big circle of fire. He does this multiple times after the effect runs out and further back. So to counter this, Dodge the first ring then back to the melee range to dodge the second one. Another trick is stacking up and bracing for impact with the healing capabilities of Cleric and Bard. Bards casts popping shielding dance and Clerics pop Communal Restoration and Divine Flare to get that 50% Magical Mitigation up from Divine Protection.

My thoughts on The Firebrand Fight

\n\n\n\n

This Firebrand Boss encounter is one of the hardest quests we have done, and the difficulty increase compared to other world bosses is massive. Just make sure that all your equipment, abilities, and skills are all ready. Strategize your positions with the team and plan on whoever will deal with the spawning fire elementals. Also, being observant watching out for breaths, and dispelling the Living bombs correctly without affecting others.

\n\n\n\n

Tumok Boss Guide in Ashes of Creation (Tumok The Wretched)

Tumok the Wretched is one of the World Bosses that can be encountered in Ashes of Creation, and is one of the first world bosses you will probably come across. He is an Elite 5-Star monster, Level 30 Elite Cyclops Mob. His appearance is like an ogre that carries a large tree.

\n\n\n\n

Tumok Boss Guide in Ashes of Creation (Location)

\n\n\n\n

The Location of Tumok is found in the northeast corner of Winstead, east of Gravepeak. Gravepreak possesses an Emberspring which is a vital piece in resurrecting when fighting Tumok. However, It is quite far from the boss’s location, so it is much better to wait for a resurrection from a Cleric instead.

\n\n\n\n

Tumok Boss Guide in Ashes of Creation (Skills and Abilities)

\n\n\n\n

Tumok the Wretched contains 3 Phases, Each Phase has its abilities that you will be dealing with and should be aware of.

\n\n\n\n

Phase 1

\n\n\n\n

Phase 1 Contains Physical attacks like slamming his tree and other skills that deal Physical Damage

\n\n\n\n

Tree Slam

\n\n\n\n

It is a type of move where he slams the tree that he is carrying and deals damage to your tank, the one that is in front of him always. It can be easily negated by blocking.

\n\n\n\n

Charge

\n\n\n\n

He uses his big feet to charge someone. It deals 250 damage to clerics and Ranger from 96% health to 73%. Also, knocks down the target for 2–3 seconds. It is quite easy to dodge or just take charge since it does minimal damage

\n\n\n\n

Uproot

\n\n\n\n

This skill happens after the charge. Which it swings its trunk and anyone hit within a radius will be stunned. It deals small damage but can be annoying sometimes

\n\n\n\n

Spirit Roar

\n\n\n\n

In this skill, he will summon a mob called Spirit Wolf, To deal with this just kill it as soon as possible since they can be easily killed and if you let it live long enough it will kill someone.

\n\n\n\n

Spore Spray

\n\n\n\n

In this skill, Tumok will cast it 3 times and in a single line in front of him, Once you get hit by this, you will get a debuff called fungus spore which deals poison damage over time. However, It can be debuffed by a bard with his Nimble Skill also it can be easily dodged.

\n\n\n\n

Phase 2

\n\n\n\n

Tumok places his totem tree on the ground and it creates vines all around it. The vines produces healing caps for Tumok.

\n\n\n\n

Healing Caps

\n\n\n\n

These are a mushroom that spawns within the vines that is produced by the totem. Make sure to kill them, and each one only has 10k Hp. A few ranger DPS and mages can do the trick and eliminate them. Tumok will eat the mushroom once he was able to, He will regain some of his HP

\n\n\n\n

Tumok Gaze

\n\n\n\n

Tumok will lock on a single player and chase them. Once he gets a hold of them, he will stun them and deal minimal damage.

\n\n\n\n

To beat this phase, assign the ranger and other ranged attackers to focus on the spawning mushroom and also kiting Tumok. Also, To prevent the tumor from eating mushrooms, aggro him far away from the vines so the time to take the mushroom will be longer.

\n\n\n\n

Phase 3

\n\n\n\n

Tumok Enrages once the Totem is Destroyed. This enrages Tumok and empowers his skills

\n\n\n\n

Stomp Frenzy

\n\n\n\n

Tumok will shout and jump to a random target. Do an AOE spin around him. It’s easy to know who will be jumped based on his move, so make sure to use a dodge roll to avoid being stunned.

\n\n\n\n

Enraged Charge

\n\n\n\n

It is like a Charge from Phase 1 but deals way more damage, so be careful and time your dodge to stay alive.

\n\n\n\n

Hammerquake Shake

\n\n\n\n

He slams the ground and deals a lot of AOE damage. Take note that the more he does this skill, the more he slams the ground. For instance, the first time he does the shake, He will slam 3 times, and the next time, He will slam 5 times.

The tip for this phase 3 is to just kill Tumok as fast as possible since the more he is in enraged form, the more damage and AOE stuns he will be dealing that could be fatal to the party. So, Focus all your damage on him and kill him ASAP.

To easily finish this world boss, One last tip is to let all the tank, and melee archetypes close to Tumok and also to the bard and clerics for fast healing and aoe Buffs that will withstand all the damage to Tumok. Also, let the ranger and ranged dps to finish the spawning mushroom and maintain distance while kiting Tumok. Keep in mind to kill as fast as possible the spawning wolves. Also. Dodge the charge and kill Tumok as fast as possible in the last phase.

Mining in Ashes of Creation

Mining is a common skill that is known and used in the majority of MMO games to date. This skill is extremely important as it allows you to mine all different types of veins that can give you a variety of Ores and Gems, which can be used later on at many different processing stations, such as Metalworking, Stone-masonry and Alchemy stations.

\n\n\n\n

Unlike other MMOs, Ashes of Creation offers a unique way of how mining works. In most games, ore veins will appear in a fixed location around the map, which makes the skill very boring as it requires not much exploration and value to it. However, in Ashes of Creation, it offers the complete opposite where these veins will randomly appear in a rough area, but they will have no fixed location where they spawn.

\n\n\n\n

I personally believe this is a better way of doing it for two reasons. One reason is that this allows players to not be able to ‘camp’ these locations. And two, they are much harder to discover, which offers much more value when you find them.

\n\n\n\n

Before we dive into how mining works and what you can do with the resources that you find. You must know that you don’t find gems from mining ore. Instead, you will need to find and mine separate gem veins for gems and ore veins for ore.

\n\n\n\n

Getting Started

\n\n\n\n

Now that we have given you a short introduction to the skill, it’s time to get you a pickaxe and get you out there mining. In order to get yourself started, you will first need to complete some of the quests which are given to you in the starting zone. You are mainly looking for the quest “The Sweat Of Your Brow”. As this gives you all the basic tools to get you started, such as a Crude Mining Pickaxe.

\n\n\n\n

If you are unsure if you have got a pickaxe already, you can simply open up your character screen by pressing the “H” key on your keyboard and clicking the artisan tab.

\n\n\n\n

As you have now got the pickaxe, it’s time to get out there and get mining. As there is no set location for any ore, we can only recommend roaming around and looking at the edges of rocky terrain, as ore seems to be more common around this area. We have also noticed better ore, such as copper, spawns much more frequently in higher level zones such as Winstead compared to the starting zones like Lionhold.

\n\n\n\n

What to do with your Ore and Gems

\n\n\n\n

Once you have finished mining, it’s now time to decide what to do with your ore and gems. These can all be used at various stations or even townboard jobs. However, if you have farmed copper or zinc, these are preferably used at the metalworking station where they can be turned into either ingots or fragments. These are needed to make better tools, weapons, armor and accessories.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Ores like Basalt and Granite are typically used at the stone-masonry station, which can be used to make all sorts of crafts. One of the most popular uses for this ore is the weapon and armor molds. As these are usually required when you wish to craft an armor piece or new tool/weapon.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Gems are an interesting one. If you take rubies, for example, they can be grounded at the alchemy station for ruby powder, which can then either be turned into health salve or turned into red ink. Red ink is commonly needed at the Scribing station to create all different types of scribing scrolls that can give you more stats for a temporary amount of time.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

These gems can also be cut at the stone-masonry station, which can then be used to create all different kinds of jewelry, such as rings and necklaces. These can also be used to craft survey pylons at the arcane engineering station. Which gives your skills a boost for a short period of time.

How To Progress Further

\n\n\n\n

Now that you know how to mine in Ashes of Creation and you know what to do with the ore and gems that you have mined. It’s now time to explain what you can do next.

\n\n\n\n

To progress further and be able to mine better gems and ores such as Emeralds and Tin. You will need to reach level 10 in mining. This can take alot of time, so we recommend mining all the ore that you see on your travels.

\n\n\n\n

If you wish to speed up the leveling process, you can craft yourself a Novice Mining Pickaxe at a mining station in any major town whenever you get enough resources (mainly copper fragments). This pickaxe allows you to mine at a faster rate, so you can level much faster.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

We also recommend speaking to the mining vendor and purchasing yourself a Novice Miner’s Shirt, Novice Mining Satchel. This will allow you to have a better storage bag for your ore and wearing the shirt will give you a better mining quality rating. Novice Mining Survey Pylons are good too, but as they are for a temporary use, we recommend purchasing them later on when you are ready to start crafting.

\n\n\n\n

Once you have hit level 10 in mining, it’s time to find a town that has a Stoneworks building. The Stoneworks have an upgraded apprentice mining station. Which allows you to craft the next tier pickaxe called the Apprentice Mining Pickaxe.

Although you can not use the pickaxe straight away as you MUST talk to the Stoneworks Foreman NPC in plot and upgrade your mining certificate. This will allow you to reach level 20 in your mining skill now and also allow you to mine Tin, Slate, Halcyonite and Emeralds.

These effects can be improved or reduce the stats such as damage output, mobility, and many other stats. This has a major impact on the performance during combat. However, some skills are limited for each class thus the status effect. It means that you can only apply certain status effects depending on your archetype. But, keep in mind that you still can be affected by all status effect. Having a good understanding of the different status effects can help you win battles by applying countermeasures to them. We will now discuss each status effect and what are the impacts of each one whether it is a positive status effect, Called a Buff, or a Negative one, Called a Debuff. Listen Carefully!

Bleeding

\n\n\n\n

Bleeding is continuous damage that is 15% percent over 6 seconds. Totaling 90% percent damage over the status effect duration. The damage can vary depending on the skill that applies the debuff. It can evolve into a higher-status effect called Hemoragging.

\n\n\n\n

Hemoragging

\n\n\n\n

It is a more severe type of bleeding that does 20% percent bleed damage every 0.5 secs over 5 secs duration. Totaling to a massive 200% damage.

\n\n\n\n

Burning

\n\n\n\n

It is also a type of DoT effect or Damage over time like bleeding and Hemoragging. It burns and deals fire damage to the target that lasts up to 8 seconds, It can be reapplied and increase the duration up to 24 seconds. There is an after-damage once the burn effect ends, It is called Conflagrating.

Conflagrating

\n\n\n\n

Conflagrating converts all the remaining burning damage on the target into an accelerated DoT, which lasts for 4 seconds. Also, the damage is boosted by 30%.

Chilled

\n\n\n\n

It is a movement debuff affecting movement speed to be reduced by 50% which lasts 6 seconds. It can be also extended up to 15 secs by subsequent applications.

Frozen

A higher type of chilled. The user cannot move or rotate for 4 seconds. They are immobilized. When combined with a lightning skill during frozen, The target will receive 300% ice damage as a Shatter Effect. It can only be triggered once every 4 seconds per caster on the same target. Mages can benefit from the stagger effect as well – Aftershock is an improvement of Chain Lighting, which once hit a staggered target, will cause the attack to trigger twice. They are great support for any type of encounter, be it PVP or PVE.

Skill Selection and Core Abilities

As the leveling process goes on, everyone will encounter different challenges. For the tanks are these:

\n\n\n\n

Low damage output
Running out of mana
Lack of sufficient self-healing
Holding aggro or getting enough aggro off a party member before they get killed.

\n\n\n\n

The answer to the first 3 is rather easy – teammates! Having a group of friends will make your gaming experience in Ashes of Creation immensely more fun.

\n\n\n\n

Tip: A good group structure would be: Tank, Cleric, Bard, Fighter/Mage/Ranger. A 4-5 man group is efficient when it comes down to farming experience.

\n\n\n\n

How to handle the 4th challenge?

\n\n\n\n

Selecting the right skills from the skill tree is the answer. Here you can find a suggestion of skills for the early levels. We will touch on basic rotation as well.

\n\n\n\n

Before we start, here is a quick example of what you can do as a tank. (no fancy weapons or armor; basic starting gear with common copper mace and shield)

\n\n\n\n

Core abilities and how the skills can change your gaming experience

\n\n\n\n

As you open your skill book for the first time, you will notice that there are icons with a huge white cross that indicate multiple options. Basically, the game asks you to choose between a single target ability or an AOE ability. The tanks have 3 of those choices to make, which can change the gaming experience greatly.

\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Pulverize or Desolate

\n\n\n\n

Pulverize is the hardest hitting ability of the tanks – it will attack 1 enemy within 4m range. Essentially, that is a short gap closer with high damage output and threat generation.

\n\n\n\n

Desolate will have the same attack animation. Instead of moving to a target within 4m range, it will do damage to everything within 4m range. Same threat generation.

\n\n\n\n

In my build, based on my gaming experience in Ashes of Creation, so far, Pulverize proved to be most useful to my party. Especially in the case of someone “ninja” pulling – 300% threat generation on top of the 225% physical damage is a huge helper.

\n\n\n\n

Tremoring Bellow or Tremoring Strike

\n\n\n\n

Tremoring Bellow is an AOE ability that will apply Snare to every enemy hit in front of the tank.

\n\n\n\n

Tremoring Strike is a single target ability, which will Trip your target – the enemy will fall on the ground. (Recommended for PVP)

\n\n\n\n

I have selected Tremoring Bellow to help with maintaining the AOE aggro and the movements of the targets in front of me. AOE snare is massive assistance to the party when you are doing mass pulls. Also, the Rangers benefit from already snared targets – Bear Trap, Air Strike. The damage difference is not as great as it was with Pulverize and Desolate.

\n\n\n\n

Tip: If you do not have a Fighter in your group (I have at least 1) and there is no one that can trip your enemy, you might consider swapping to Tremoring Strike for that and have Desolate instead of Pulverize to maintain AOE aggro.

\n\n\n\n

Shield Assault or Shield Slam

\n\n\n\n

Shield Assault is a 7m shield charge which will stagger enemies in front of the tank. The movement is based on where your character is facing.

\n\n\n\n

Shield Slam is a 10m shield charge towards your target.

\n\n\n\n

Shield Assault costs more mana, charge distance is 3m less and does 25% less damage. However, the skill helps with the AOE aggro, which applies Staggered to the enemies in front, which the Fighters (Cataclysm) and Mages can benefit from.

\n\n\n\n

The other core skills

\n\n\n\n

After deciding on which of those abilities is best suited for your Ashes of Creation experience, it is time to combine them with the rest of the core skills.

\n\n\n\n

Inciting Strikes – The main threat generation skill for both a single target and AOE. It hits everything in front of the tank.

\n\n\n\n

Grapple – Single target pull. Amazing for pulling targets as an opening skill. Visually, it looks cool and everyone from your party can see which enemy you are planning to attack. In case of honest mistake or someone from your party, ninja pulls or over aggro a target – you can pull them back to you and keep your friend safe.

\n\n\n\n

Fortify – Is your best damage mitigation ability. If used when your courage is at max (100/100), it will provide you with a 40% damage reduction for 20 seconds. Furthermore, it will help you with getting that courage back to max. You must have this.

\n\n\n\n

Charge – This is a skill which can help you if you have to traverse distance in a very quick manner. Helps with kitting slow enemies and or to buy time for the healers to heal you up. Every enemy hit on the way will be staggered. Tip: can be used while swimming ;)

\n\n\n\n

Taunt – This skill doesn’t immediately make the target attack you. It helps you build aggro and reduces damage done to anyone, but you with the debuff Humiliated.

\n\n\n\n

Reflect – Increases your block mitigation for the duration of this ability. If an attack occurs within 3 seconds, you will reflect it back to the attacker. This ability generates threat as well.

\n\n\n\n

Supernatural Grit – provides the same level of mitigation towards magic attacks as Grit does for physical attacks.

\n\n\n\n

Rotation

\n\n\n\n

To keep single target aggro – Inciting Strikes + Pulverize + Reflect + Auto Attacks.

\n\n\n\n

To keep AOE aggro – Inciting Strikes + Tremoring Bellow + Shield Assault + Auto Attacks.

\n\n\n\n

In case of ninja pull, wrong targeting or loosing aggro – Taunt and/or Grapple + Inciting Strike + Pulverize.

\n\n\n\n

Maxing out single target damage output – Shield Slam/Shield Assault -> Tremoring Strike with the upgrade Forceful Tremors -> Ground Pound -> Pulverize with the upgrade Punish.

\n\n\n\n

Cooldowns and situational abilities

\n\n\n\n

Some insights/pointers to have in consideration when making your selection of skills if you want to deviate from the planned build:

\n\n\n\n

Currently, the skill Wall is working. It is a cool looking ability, but doesn’t block any movements or projectiles from mobs.

\n\n\n\n

Shake it Off is the only self-healing ability. 10% of your maximum health points, every 30 seconds. Compared to the damage taken per hit and the healing received, this skill is lacking.. Works well with Indomitable Spirit.

\n\n\n\n

Indomitable Spirit is your second-best defensive skill. It is an ability with a 60 seconds cooldown and for 15 seconds you will have 30% more health points and you will receive 30% more healing from skills. Once you have unlocked it and you are more confident in your survival, you can combine it with Aegis.

\n\n\n\n

Absorption Field is one of the ways you can protect your party in cases of not expected enemies or targets, which are having hard hitting aoe spells. 20% of your maximum health will be added to your party members who enter this field.

\n\n\n\n

Rush of Courage will provide you with 100 courage. Usually, it is easy to build up courage. However there are and will be encounters in which you must engage with maxed out courage for mitigation purposes. This skill will help you in those scenarios.

\n\n\n\n

After you have selected the defensive abilities, it is time to check on your offensive skills, again.

\n\n\n\n

Intimidating Aura can help you with maintaining the AOE aggro and with staggering enemies. Thanks to this ability, you can get back to the Tremoring Bellow and Tremoring Strike options. If the AOE snare is no longer needed, you can change it for the trip effect. The same thing is valid for the choice between Shield Assault and Shield Slam.

\n\n\n\n

When Intimidating Aura and Ground Pound are both selected, Tremoring Strike becomes even more valuable.

\n\n\n\n

Aegis and Protect are skills which can help you save party member(s) or get you killed. In PVE there are better solutions – DPS should attack the tank’s target, should not pull if not asked/needed. Best is to leave the pulling to the tanks. The initial threat is important since it may take time to catch up with the aggro. In PVP, these 2 skills can help your healers survive longer.

\n\n\n\n

Tomahawk on it is own is not exactly desired skill. With the upgrade (Tomahawk Trip), it becomes valid option in PVP.

Stamina Skill Tree

These choices are straight forward as Tank. First, Improve your blocking:

Less stamina consumption when blocking
30% less time in which you will be CC’ed.
25% increased effectiveness of your blocks

For the second tree to level up, I have chosen to improve the sprinting. Currently, the stamina cost of rolling can’t be justified, compared to the benefits and stamina cost when blocking.

\n\n\n\n

Melee Weapon

We can choose between 2 types of melee weapons for tanking – 1hand Mace and 1hand Sword.

\n\n\n\n

Both of them are valid options. Base your decision on the needs of your party and the enemy you are facing. Main difference – Swords swing faster, Maces have higher damage per swing.

\n\n\n\n

1hand mace can provide Stagger (might become overkill) or Daze (increase enemy’s casting time)

\n\n\n\n

1hand sword can provide Bleed (overal more damage done), Snare (slow) or Wound (reduce healing).

\n\n\n\n

Range Weapon

Tanks can use range weapons next to melee to help with pulling from distance or provide different debuff, which our main weapon can’t. If you have picked 1hand mace, the bow can provide wound. If you have picked 1hand sword, the bow can provide stagger

Tip: Even if you have Bow out to use for auto attacking, you can still benefit from the shield’s blocking potential when you press your block keybind.

Gearing in Ashes of Creation

Disclaimer: The process is slow! All items which are displayed below are obtainable. Armor and weapons mainly drop in various POIs. Recipes are dropping as well, therefor you can obtain higher rarity if you get high enough crafting skill and have the necessary materials. You can start working on those items as soon as you hit level 10

\n\n\n\n

Side note: I have chosen the rarity level to be “Rare” since I have, and I have seen drops of that rarity, as well as being a realistically crafted rarity. Personally, I am focusing on Jewelcrafting and have the recipes for the selected items. Those items are on the “low end” of what is available.

\n\n\n\n

Once you reach level 16-17, It is recommended to start visiting Citadel of the Steel Bloom in order to acquire the next tier of armor – Rosarium Guard.

\n\n\n\n

Stats

\n\n\n\n

What kind of stats should you be looking for if you are a tank and you want to perform well?

\n\n\n\n

Constitution – increases the maximum health points, armor, physical critical avoidance rating
Strength – increases physical power rating, physical accuracy rating, physical penetration rating
Mentality – increases magical resis, magical critical avoidance rating, max mana

\n\n\n\n

Stick to those 3 if you have hard time acquiring the items mentioned above. Here is why:

\n\n\n\n

Constitution will help you against physical damage and will increase your health pool.
Strength will help you with holding the aggro and will increase the damage against other players as well as the chance to hit them.
Mentality will help you with the mana pool and will reduce the incoming magical damage from PVE and PVP.

After the initial planned abilities, I had to deviate a little. I didn’t change the skills, but rather the order in which I picked them on the journey to level 10. That is based on the encounters and the number of people in my party and their archetypes. Meaning: to stay on top of your game, you should try to be as flexible as possible with the current needs of your party.

I had to pick up the Charge ability before others, since I have found my mobility lacking.

Yes! This archetype is for those who want to mitigate incoming damage for party/raid members, support allies by debuffing enemies or shielding friends, obstruct enemy attacks and movement.
